No, Swapmod A1M Kit and STL Editions are not similar.

•  For ease of assembling process, the ejection trigger mechanics is designed differently in the STL edition. This new solution requires also less maintenance (like tightening the rope in a Kit edition). 
• Swapmod STL edition requires a different edition of the swaplist app than the Kit edition, as it uses a different gCode sequence for plate swap.
• As the STL edition is distributed as download only, the app access will require login (once in a while). The app for swapmod Kit edition is accessible without login and can be downloaded and used offline.  
• STL edition contains all needed printing files while the Kit edition offers access only to a portion of the housing files and provides the rest as a shipped hardware kit.
• Purchasing swapmod STL edition you will be granted a non-transferable right to build and use the product, which means you are not allowed to sell it. Purchasing a swapmod Kit edition you will receive a physical product which you can sell or give away.
• With the Swapmod STL Edition, you can equip multiple printers at no extra cost, provided you have enough screws and magnets. The Swapmod Kit edition must be purchased for each additional printer.

• At the moment swapmod cannot be sold to the USA for legal reasons.
• Some regions are excluded due to political and economic circumstances, such as war and international sanctions.

• Both editions are using same plate hooks.
• Both editions are still maintained and will get design updates if reasonable.
• There is a new compatibility mode in the swaplist-app, which generates swap files compatible with both editions of swapmod (Kit and STL). Means you can keep using your swapmods Kit edition alongside with swapmods STL edition without dealing with two different app versions.  
• Both swapmod editions are easy to build, comes with a detailed guidance and requires absolutely same (low) skill level.
• Both editions are compatible to almost all official and user-made mods and extensions on MakerWorld.

• For the Swapmod Kit Edition of all needed components with pre-inserted magnets comes as a prebuild package.
• Magnets and screws needed to build Swapmod STL Edition are standardized parts and can be sourced from any local supplier of your choice. For EU customers we offer pre-composed sets in our shop.

No, swapmod A1M (Kit ans STL Edition) is NOT compatible with any 3D printer other than BambuLab A1 mini.

Yes. This is also one of the core advantages of multi plate Automation. Printing one color per plate reduces time ans material waist to the minimum.

We recommend using up to 10 plates. However, physically there is room for up to 15.

Technically – yes, but it is recommended to use original BabuLab build plates as they perform the best of all plates tested so far. Even if a third party plate looks similar, it may behave differently due to differences in magnetic properties, sheet thickness and surface coating quality. The reliability of the system can be affected dramatically by all these factors.

As the state for today – yes, all plates are compatible with swapmod. However you should take into account that smooth PEI surfaces could become slight scratches over time (oriented in the Y-axis direction) because of the continuous loading and ejecting process. Especially the side turned down is affected by this. It is recommended not removing the protective film from the bottom side when its not in use.

Yes, but the hooks screwed to the front of the panels must be reversed.

You can still use Bambu Studio or Orca Slicer as you are used to. In addition, there will be a browser-based application (which will also work offline) for building/editing the queue.

No, it is not possible when using swaplist.app for queue management. Adding and removing print jobs while printer is running is not possible. Once queue is started it runs through until it’s finished or canceled by user. To edit the queue you need to stop the print (eg. after running plate is finished) and resend the edited queue file to your printer.

However this limitation doesn’t apply when using printer management software like simplyprint.io. This kind of application are build for live management of your printers.

When using the swaplist application to create a print queue, you will not be able to use “skip objects” as you may have done previously. It is not certain if this will be implemented in future releases, as some limitations here come from the BambuCloud functionality and the way the swaplist application works in general. By using a third party cloud based application for queue management (instead of swaplist) this limitation may not occur.

Swapmod has been tested on thousands, of plate changes on multiple machines to find and rework all possible sources of error. The current version works optimally but is not 100% perfect. There is still a certain risk of failure during loading and unloading, or due to side effects related to the use of the system. Mostly, this ends in the printer stopping due to a missing plate or a crash detection, and doesn’t cause any damage. However, it could theoretically result in damage (most likely repairable) to your printer or your build plates. You should always be aware of this fact. Especially at the beginning you should keep an eye on your printer while using swapmod. For reproducible problems, there will be an online troubleshooting guide to help you find a solution.
